Why should you think about beginning a pilates class right now?

  • During COVID-19.
  • During quarantine.
  • During stay at home.
  • During this new homeschooling thing.
  • During a time when work might be cut down on.

There are so many reasons why you might think it’s the wrong time to start something, anything, new.

But you’d be wrong.

Just stay with me for a minute, and I’ll tell you why in reality this is the best time.

Many people in our community right now are experiencing the effects of this pandemic and those effects usually come in the form of job reductions.

You may either be unemployed at the moment or your work hours may have been cut down. Perhaps your partner’s work has been reduced. Either way, you’re spending a lot more time at home than normal. If you are this person, you might be feeling some stress due to your financial situation. You might be getting exasperated because of educating your children at home. You might be feeling anxious just from having your routine unsettled.


Now is also the time when you can actually spend a little bit more time on yourself. It is also the time when it’s more important to take those precious few minutes a day and invest them in yourself.

But it’s wrong isn’t it?

No! It is not a bad thing to take an hour to yourself and go work out. Self-care is important. Self-care does not equal self-ish.

Believe me, I get it!

I’m a mother with 2 elementary school kids. I had to become a teacher overnight, in addition to mother, nurse, and chef. And trust me, grade 5 math is not my thing!

We mommas need to make sure we are carving out some “sanity time” into our weekly schedules. If you take an hour or two for yourself each week it is not a bad thing.

In fact, you must care for yourself so that you are able to care for others.

In a private Pilates session the focus is all about you. What you need, what your body needs.

What else?

Pilates is fantastic for reducing stress – and let’s be real, we’re all carrying a bit of extra stress right now. And maybe a wee bit extra around our waist too! Also, if you are spending more time at home than normal, you might just be looking for an excuse to get out of the house for an hour or an excuse to lock yourself in the bedroom with your zoom turned on for an hour – either option is great.

So do yourself a favour – take an hour for Pilates this week! Stress relief, relaxation, self-care, me time, and exercise all in one hour!

Earn that glass of wine. 😂
